Sewing:

A creative mess is better than tidy idleness.

~Unknown (but I could have written it!)

I bet you can relate.

Whether it's sewing, painting, knitting or any creative endeavor, you're bound to get in the "zone". When I get there, the mess (and the creative juice) flows. You know how it is, you work on one thing, then start on another and pretty soon it's a disaster of epic proportions. Felt flowers, patterned paper, thread, fabric. What was I making again? It was that bad. In an effort finally curb the clutter, I decided to re-organize my office/creative space, including buying new shelves and containers. I was making pretty good progress (HUGE sized mess) when I started to feel sick. So sick in fact that my creative space/office has been sitting in this messy, disaster state for almost two weeks! And darn! Those magical, cleaning, organizing fairies didn't visit my space and tidy it up!

Where are they anyway?

But something equally wonderful did show up on my doorstep while I was sick…

This DARLING book was delivered and my day was instantly brightened.

Its-a-Girls-World-by-Jennifer-Paganelli[5]

Oh the Easter dress I could sew for my Emma …

There are 21 FABULOUS sewing projects to make for little girls and for those of us who are little girls at heart! I had a great time marking the things I want to sew for my girl, plus there's even a great idea for a desk cover that I may use for my new craft desk … If I can decide on one!

If only the magic fairies would PLEASE show up,

I could get right to it~

This is MyYearOfTechnology! Saying Yes, when I really mean NO, to learning everything I can so I won’t become an old fuddy-duddy who can’t even switch off the light. Never in my life would I think I’d ever sew. Think, nightmares from middle school home-ec class with overbearing teacher. My patient quilter friend taught me the other day, and wow, got visions of putting sewing into my Art Journals. Who knew! I’ve just learned how to look at all these marvelous blogs, and I think all you women are amazing. I’ve started a blog, got on Facebook, and away we go. If I win, I’ll be forced to learn more sewing, and it might just be good for me.

Well Jennifer’s book looks just incredible! I.heart.that.gal. LOVE her!! I have to tell you what strikes me even more about this post is the quote. My studio is a constant mess, cleaned up once a week only to be thrashed the next day. Those who live with me and sometimes those who just visit– who are not so creative– look at me like i am from mars. My MIL even said “How do you work in there? If you would just stop to fold the fabric when you are done with it there wouldn’t be such a big pile” I laughed. Poor thing doesnt have an artistic bone in her body!
Funny enough, I posted a photo of my studio on my blog today and you can see a pile of dresses and fabric on the chair! Glad I’m not alone :)

Hey there! First time I’ve popped in for a visit – was surfing the web looking for decorating inspiration cos the process you described for your creative space … well … it’s a VERY familiar scene here, except I didn’t get sick! :0) The sewing room ‘creative chaos’ (which sounds SO much nicer than my mother’s label of disaster zone!!) is currently undergoing a makeover. I’m throwing out, sorting out … wearing out!! Walls are painted an inspirational blue, new furniture has been bought or madeover … now if only those organising fairies would show up here too! Tee! Hee! Hee! Good luck with YOUR creative chaos taming … I’d better get back to mine! :0) Bear Hugs! KRIS
