Sassy Sculptures

I have to admit that this month’s features have been some of my favorite.  I love thinking about all the amazing and different ways we can decorate our walls.  And while photography and paintings are wonderful ways to add a little decor to a bare wall, I wanted to feature something a little more funky today.  I love the idea of hanging sculptures on a wall and wanted to share a few examples of wall sculptures

  •  Samurai Spaceship
  • Abstract Wall Art
  • Nine Rectangles
  • Asteroid Wall Sculpture

Do you have any sculptures adorning your walls?

 About A Sweethaven Summer:

Campbell Carter has come to Sweethaven in search of answers about her mother’s history. Just before losing a battle with cancer, Suzanne Carter wrote letters to childhood friends from her hometown of Sweethaven, Michigan. Suzanne’s three friends—Lila, Jane, and Meghan—haven’t spoken in years, yet each has pieces of a scrapbook they made together as girls. Suzanne’s letters have lured them all back to the idyllic lakeside town, where they meet Campbell and begin to remember what was so special about their long Sweethaven summers.

With the help of a handsome local man and her mother’s three friends, Campbell hopes to finally uncover her mother’s twenty-five-year old secret. In the process, she discovers a family she never knew and the home she’s always wanted.

As the women reconnect over the pages of the old scrapbook, wounds are mended, lives are changed, and friendships are restored—just as Suzanne intended.

Where Women Create Sneak Peek: Ryne Hazen

This week’s sneak peek into the pages of Where Women Create Magazine is a little different.  We are featuring one of our “men who make it.”  I know as you look at the world through the lens of Ryne Hazen you’re going to want to see more.

Ryne Hazen
Hazen Studios
www.hazenstudios.com

“Photography is a part of my history. Long before I was ever around, my parents were professional photographers; they worked at photo studios at various JCPenney stores in Utah. So you could say my original love of photography came from osmosis more than anything; I was around it so much I couldn’t help it.

Though I was around photography from a young age, I didn’t catch the real bug for myself until high school. I had a 35 mm camera and took pictures of my friends all the time. Back then we were working only in film, so it was more unusual to take so many pictures. It still wasn’t anything I was planning on doing professionally though.

My career choice was to go into business and climb the corporate ladder, so I began college at Weber State University as a business management major. But I took one elective photography class, and was hooked. I had always liked taking pictures, but the second I was able to actually process the film and do the printing myself, I knew I could never go back. The dark room fascinated me; I loved being able to see the end result of my hard work. I had a photography professor who took an interest in me; he said I had a talent for photography and should pursue it.”

A Month of Re-purpose

February brought us a month of workspace decor…with a purpose…or maybe re-purpose.  I hope you enjoyed all of the re-purposed and up-cycled decor ideas.

Mirrors:

Lamps:

Picture Frames:

Books:

Vases:

Chandeliers:

Reclaimed Wood Art:

Now I need to get busy using some of these ideas in my office.

Wood Is Good

No home or workspace would be complete without art adorning the walls.  This month we have been featuring re-purposed or up-cycled items for use in home decor.  One thing I see more and more in decor is the use of wood scraps or reclaimed wood.  I found some lovely works of art made from wood.  It would make a lovely addition to your office decor.

  •  Dave Hogg Wall Sculpture
  • 3D Colored Wall Art
  • Olga Oreshyna Reclaimed Wood Art

Do you use wood for more than just furniture?

Where Women Create Sneak Peek: Salli Swindell

This week’s sneak peak into Where Women Create Magazine is a masterpiece.  It is hard to capture the amazing artwork that Salli Swindell of They Draw & Cook collects within the pages of a magazine, but I think we did a great job.

Salli Swindell
They Draw & Cook
www.theydrawandcook.com

Salli Swindell and her brother Nate Padavick are studio partners under the umbrella of Studio SSS. Salli lives in Hudson, Ohio, and Nate lives in North Adams, Massachusetts (for now, anyway; he likes to move around). They are the founders of They Draw & Cook and They Draw & Travel, the largest online collection of illustrated recipes and maps. Although they live states apart, they keep their business running through bouts of over-caffeinated video chats, phone calls, family vacations, and e-mails. They describe their sites as one big international party, with new friends and adventures showing up every day!

All Lit Up

We already touched on some re-purposed lighting earlier this month, but I couldn’t have a month of re-purposed decor without featuring one of my favorite things: chandeliers. There is no quicker way to “pretty” up your workspace than a gorgeous up-cycled chandelier.  And you don’t need to worry about going overboard; I know people who even have chandeliers in the laundry room.  I think it makes my laundry room a little jealous.  These ideas will light the spark of creativity within.

  • White Crystal Chandelier
  • Caged Basked Chandelier
  • Baby Food Jar Chandelier
  • Turquoise Chandelier

How do you light up your workspace?

Flowers in the Office

I love the smell of fresh cut flowers.  Grabbing flowers from a local florist is a perfect way to brighten up a gloomy winter day.  If you are like me you have a cabinet or shelf somewhere with vases that you have gathered over the years.  While I love a standard vase, I think our office or workspaces should be a reflection of us.  And we are anything but standard.  In keeping with this month’s theme I have found some amazing re-purosed vases that may be right for you.

  • Hanging Wine Bottle Vases
  • Recycled Bottle Vases
  • Light Bulb Vase
  • Flour Tin Vase

What is the most creative vase you use in your workspace or home?

Where Women Create Sneak Peek: Gogo Borgerding

Sneaking a peek inside Where Women Create Magazine is like being transported to a new and beautiful place.  This week we are pleased to share with you the sparkling place where Gogo Borgerding creates GOGO Jewelry.

Gogo Borgerding
GOGO Jewelry

A love of painting and other artistic endeavors has led New Orleans jewelry designer Gogo Borgerding down a wonderful path that she says makes her happy and content. Her foray into jewelry making began with Shrinky Dink and has evolved into a successful business. Nowadays she layers colored anodized aluminum sheets underneath a sterling silver top layer. She cuts her design out of the silver, then the individual layers are stacked together, drilled, and attached with handmade silver rivets. Gogo’s dazzling color and striking designs result in showstopping jewelry that always gets attention.

Bookworm

We all know that books are great for expanding our mind through reading, but have you ever thought of decorating your workspace with them?  There are so many creative and beautiful ways to up-cycle or re-purpose books for use in your decor. I always knew books were great for the imagination.

  • Turquoise Book Wall Hanging
  • Book Table
  • Book Shelf
  • Apple Book

Have you ever used a book for more than reading?

I’ve Been Framed

We are continuing our quest this month in re-purposed items to decorate your workspace.  Today we’ve captured several creative ways to re-purpose or up-cycle picture frames to use in your office or home decor.  I know they have me thinking outside the box…or in this case frame.

  • Nest Frame
  • Turquoise Birdcage Frame
  • Millwork Frames
  • Reclaimed Wood Picture Frames

Have you re-purposed picture frames before?

I think you may be catching on to this month’s theme.  I am focusing on re-using, up-cycling, or re-purposing items to decorate your workspace.  And how are you going to see all the amazing things in your space if it’s dark?  That is where these beautiful re-purposed and up-cycled lamps come in handy.  They are not only unique but functional.

  • Wine Bottle Chandelier

Have you ever made or purchased a re-purposed lamp?

Mirror Mirror On The Wall

I think most rooms need a mirror on the wall.  It helps add light, gives a sense of more space, and is simply really pretty.  We can all hit up our local antique, big box, or specialty stores and purchase a ready to use mirror.  But, have you ever thought of going to a thrift store and re-purposing that mirror into a one of a kind masterpiece?  Today we are feature some gorgeous re-purposed or up-cycled thrift store mirrors.

  • Heirloom White Mirror
  • Window Mirror
  • Aqua Mirror
  • Snowflake Mirror

Have you ever re-purposed or “up-cycled” a thrift store mirror?  Did you get fabulous results like these?

A Month of Storage Ideas

In January we have been focusing on storage and organization.  I wanted to make an easy reference for those who want to catch up or go back in time for inspiration.

Storage Containers:

Shelving:

Labels:

Mason Jar Storage:

Ribbon Storage:

Fabric Storage:

Office Supply Storage:

I don’t know about you… But I feel more organized just looking at these.

Office Supply Intervention

With this month’s focus on organizing and storage I can’t help but think of my own out-of-control pen situation and think “something’s gotta give.”  I need a better way to keep my office supplies in check. Look around at your desk or work space… maybe even your kitchen table.  Most of us have a myriad of out-of-place office supplies laying around.  In a lot of cases it is because the poor stapler, pens, or rubber bands don’t have a home.  Well, I have found 4 wonderful solutions for storage of your office supplies. Because no one just wants a plastic bin sitting in their gorgeous space.

  • Recycled Can Pyramid
  • Soup Can Wall Hanger
  • Bird Cage Organizer
  • Spice Rack Storage

How do you like to keep your office supplies in order?

Fabulous Fabric Storage

Is your fabric in piles, bins, scattered on tables, or maybe stuffed in a closet?  In our quest for all things organized this month we want to get your pretty fabric on display.  It was purchased for a reason…you loved the way it looks.  Now you keep in out in the open with these fabulous fabric storage ideas.

  • Fabric Hutch
  • Fabric Hangers
  • Fabric Bins
  • Fabric Rod

I just love seeing all the colors and textures on display.  Why hide beauty?
