"Every year at Thanksgiving, my family makes knishes, which are a fried dough stuffed with potatoes.

This started back with my Great Grandmother, Ida.

She was apparently quite a joker. One year, apparently for her own entertainment, she decided to stuff one knish with cotton instead of potato just to see the reaction of the person who got it. Turns out, the joke is funny every time. This tradition has been going on in our family for 50+ years.
No one ever remembers as they are eating the delicious knishes that they might get one with cotton in it. And every time without fail, the look on the person's face who does bite into it is worth it's weight in gold."

"My "holiday tradition" memory is quite funny.  When we were young (probably through elementary school), my brother and I were dragged away from our newly acquired presents and treasures on Christmas morning to travel to my aunt’s house.  It is there, year after year, that one or both of us ALWAYS got a copy of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer either from my grandmother or my aunt. They must have shopped at Montgomery Ward because that is the only place Rudolph books could be found as they were given away as a promotion. Later I learned that the Rudolph story was created in 1939 by Robert May, a copyright employed by the Chicago Montgomery Ward store.  You can read the very interesting story here: http://www.fireworks.com/christmas/rudolph.asp . Anyway we came to expect a Rudolph book every year and were cautioned by our parents to say "Thank you," and not to mention we already had a collection of identical Rudolph books on a shelf at home.  Now I'm an elementary school librarian and have high regard for books, but if a Rudolph book crossed my desk I might have to think twice about what to do with it!

I was so excited that I was able to make my WWC 12 Days of Christmas prize relate to my “holiday tradition”.

The “Reindeer Games” pendant is 3 ½” with an original photo of a boy feeding a reindeer that I then layered onto vintage bakelite and shoe buckles.   The vintage copper colored chain is 22” long making the total necklace 25 ½”. The hook clasp can be attached to any of the chain links enabling it to be worn shorter.

"In my home, we have all become tradition-maniacs, even referring to the night before the weekly garbage collection as “trash eve.” Many of the rituals created revolve around special foods whether its homemade latkes and applesauce on the first night of Chanukah or roasted turkey for Christmas. A favorite tradition began out of travel logistics: Snack Dinner on Christmas Eve. Every December 24th, my gang munches on chips, vegetables and dip, freshly popped popcorn, and sugar cookies. It’s a fun night of dinner on the couch, listening to music, and admiring the tree."
