Hi there – my name is Christina and I'm the creator of
Bamboletta Dolls …
We create one of a kind dolls for children, lovingly handcrafted using all natural materials. I remember creating my first doll – I stayed up until the wee hours, breathless with excitement as this doll 'came to life' before my eyes. I can not describe how exciting it was to see what evolved over those hours from some wool (which I clipped from an Ikea area rug – I had no idea where to get it!) and an old cotton tshirt of mine. One doll became another and then before I knew it I was selling at the Vancouver Farmer's Market and on Etsy. We now sell through our site www.bamboletta.com .
We are now operating out of studio in a little place called Cobble Hill, BC – located on the west coast of Canada.
There are 12 of us 'mama's' working together – putting the dolls together, sewing the clothing and knitting the little sweaters. Most of the ladies that work with us work from home – it's nice to be able to provide work to moms that are now able to stay home ith their little ones while earning income. I take care to hire not only very talented hand sewers but also ladies that have a LOT of heart – these women really love what they do. All of them are mom's themselves so they know how important dolls are to kids!
We take pride in crafting the dolls out of the best materials we can find – the yarns to create the hair are made from mohair, alpaca's and wools – the fabrics are top quality quilting fabrics with all natural materials. Our dolls are stuffed with locally sourced wool – wool is amazing for children as it is naturally antibacterial and absorbs the smell of 'home' – making the doll a real comfort toy. I remember as a child how important my doll – Elisa Eliza was. I remember the feel of her cords, the softness of her hair and the smell of her head. This is something I consider when choosing the 'ingredients' that go into creating a Bamboletta doll.
We craft between 150 – 200 dolls a month – most of them as 'Ready to Go Home' but some of them as custom (something which we do in a limited supply). We also make doll clothing in the studio as well. We are extremely fortunate to have some of the most amazing customers in the world who share with us the joy their child has with their doll - there is a camaraderie between Bamboletta 'fans' that I feel is so special and unique. I am so incredibly blessed to have them – you are making my dream come true!
