 ~My Treasure~

When our first son, David, was born with a disability, everything came crumbling down. All the plans I had made, dreams I had dreamed seemed to vanish. We had a tiny baby with lots of needs and no idea how to make a way forward.

Slowly he worked his way into our hearts. Slowly we started to see glimpses of joy. This little baby was changing us from the inside out and teaching us what was most important.  During this time I was working as a teacher in our local school district but my heart was at home with our new son. Although I was scared, I decided to start a business with the hope that eventually it would enable me to work from home.

My little business started at our dining room table. Each design was one-of-a-kind and I sifted through my beads and tools until inspiration would strike My sweet friends hosted parties at their homes to showcase my handmade jewelry.  Then, retail stores started to take an interest in my designs. The business was growing. I had to hire help so I could keep up with all the customer service and shipping needs while still having time to create. And eventually we opened our online shop.

Fast forward to David

Your son may have been born with a disability, but he ENabled you to have the life your living. That was his gift to you and his purpose.
One of my favourite song lyrics that reminds me of the blessing of imperfection is this:
“Ring the bell that still can ring.
    Forget your perfect offering.
There’s a crack that shows in everything-
that’s how the light gets in.”
    -Leonard Cohen
The things that seeminly crack our hearts also allow for the light to work its way in.

This story is very encouraging, as a stay at home mom trying to start my own business; my eyes have been opened again to the possibilities. My youngest children are 1 and 2. Thank you.

Wonderful story. I truly believed your business flourished because you started it for the right reason. When we create just to make lots of money it does not work. When we do it out of love and passion-we are blessed.

We start out life young and full of hopes and dreams. As we get older, life has a way of taking many twists and turns. As a leukemia survivor I totally get it! Life takes on a whole different meaning when faced with such difficulties. Your work is so beautiful, so much so that I just sent my son your shop’s link. He finally has found his soul mate and was telling me just this evening he would like to find her a piece of jewelry with some meaning. I think one of your pieces would be just perfect. :)
