    Laurel says:

My funniest Holiday memory would probably be when I was in college and a few of my friends came home with me for the weekend. Everything that happend was hilarious.

  2. 2
    Sue Anne says:

The tree just — fell down — right on top of my six-year old. He was fine. Sorry, that’s all I’ve got!

  3. 3
    Keena says:

My funniest holiday memory would be the year my family texted me a picture of the Christmas tree they got while I was at work. It was the scrawniest “Charlie Brown” tree you’ve ever seen. They even put a couple of decorations on it, lights and a tree skirt! I swallowed hard, and told them it was beautiful. When I got home, they had the real tree out and were really laughing at me!!

  4. 4
    Kristy says:

Having the cats knock over the tree…..it wasn’t that funny when it happened, but it is now! :)

  5. 5
    Courtney says:

Thinking back on this, it’s hard to pinpoint a funny memory. They are all good, just funny is a special kind of memory. One Christmas, when it was dark outside, my dad took us all out to play football. We all had these one piece snowsuits and were bundled up for the usual cold Wisconsin weather. As I was hunched over getting ready to hike the ball, my dad stuck his finger out and pushed on my forehead. I had so many layers on that I couldn’t stop myself and fell right over backwards. It was totally the funniest thing that I remember from my childhood.

  6. 6
    sherry says:

A family trip that was bad from the start. Started with a car accident, ER, missed flight, delays, airport sleeping, lost suitcases, vomit, mo sleep…. Time with family, worth it!

  7. 7
    Kimberly says:

A few years ago, I went home for Christmas. We only do stocking stuffers for the grownups in my family. In my stocking, I found a salad dressing cruet… like something you’d pick up at the grocery store. Which I thought was odd…and my mom (who gave it to me) could tell I was puzzled. It turns out she had misunderstood something I had mentioned in a previous conversation (I don’t even remember what I had originally wanted). Later, we go to my aunt’s house, and there’s another round of stockings. I open mine… and pull out the same cruet. This time I start laughing, because I think my mom and aunt have punked me. But my aunt isn’t laughing, and doesn’t understand what’s going on. Then my mom starts laughing uncontrollably. I thought my mom had brought the cruet from morning over, but actually, my aunt had purchased me the exact same cruet my mother had. So random.

  8. 8
    Cheryl W. says:

My parents used to put a train underneath the Christmas tree each year. One year (as teenagers), one of us kids put the Santa from the decorations under the tree in the train to ride around. After a trip or two around the track, the train came back around without him. In his place was a ransom note. Negotiations started and finally Santa was freed and put back on the train. My dad even got into the action. Fun memory. Hard to believe it entertained my two sisters and I for quite awhile considering we were in our teens.

  9. 9
    Sherry Costello says:

My sister & i took her 2 girls to the movies to see alvin & the chipmunks we go every year!! It was dark & my little niece, 5 at the time handed her mother the paper from her straw & her mother thought it was a piece of popcorn & put it in her mouth!!! OMG i am still laughing!!

  10. 10
    Karlene Boss says:

Almost dropping the turkey when I was taking it out of the oven. At the time the turkey probably weighed more than me. Everybody was waiting for me to show up with the turkey and were making jokes about how I was probably on the floor with the turkey on top of me and could’t get up. No when sent help though. lol!

  11. 11
    Angela says:

Watching our boys faces when the woulld get clothes was so funny. When they were younger… Only our daughter would like getting clothes. However, this will b the first year we won’t b able to get them anything. So… I am sure they would b happy with any gift. Even clothes.

  12. 12
    Pamela Spradlin says:

My funniest moment so far for Christmas…We were hosting 2 exchange students and decided that we needed to go out and cut a real tree for their Christmas with us. My husband couldn’t get the tree to stay standing in the stand he bought so he decided to tie a rope around the tree and hook it to the wall. About 2 days before Christmas we were all sitting in the living room and all of sudden we hear a crack and down comes the tree along with the part of the wall that my husband had put the hooks into that was suppose to be holding the tree up. We ended up putting that tree out in the yard, decorations and all and set up the artificial tree for our Christmas. One of my gifts that year…I got the wall fixed!!!

  13. 13
    Suzy Gray says:

More super prizes & blogs thanks for the chance to win

My funniest holiday memory was the year my grandfather dressed up as santa… I was still young enough to buy into it but when sitting on his lap I smelled Sea Breeze that he used on his face after shaving & showering… it was a tell all & I reached up pulled his beard and screamed thinking MY GRUMPY was the real santa and was walking up to everyone telling them – not the more logical that he was faking. Then I started spouting off about why he didn’t take me to the north pole and I was all mad about not riding in the sleigh & stomped off. Needless to say that all the family was in stitches

  14. 14
    Jenna says:

Waking up on Christmas morning to my sons new scooter in a completely different place than we put it on Christmas Eve!

  15. 15
    Lynn D says:

The Christmas my daughter was three all she waned was a Baby Alive doll, which was the last present she opened. Each present she opened provoked an unexpected response. EVERY box was treated with the phrase “My very own box. Thank you.” We had to encourage her to actually OPEN the rest of the boxes. We laughed about it for years.

  16. 16
    red says:

This question sent me straight to a memory of cleaning the turkey after the christmas meal.
My Grandma ( 87) and I always every year do this duty in the kitchen since she had her stroke.
It was something she could do being as all the other years she was the master behind that glorious meal. IT was the gift she gave the family.

We got out all our usual tools, no knives just pick apart with our hands. She could not see well but knew that bird . We got to the back end and in a moment of perfect clarity and speech she said, “This is the turkey’s butt.” I fell out with laughter. Grandma followed up with ,”I bet you didn’t think I would say that.”

IT was greatest Christmas gift I could have ever gotten. The gift of laughter from such a lovely woman who meant the world to me. The memory is a treasure.

  17. 17
    Maureen says:

My grandmother got up and danced with Santa at a party that we went to as a family. She did the Irish jig with him and he was trying to keep up with her. She was about 89 or 90 at the time too,

  18. 18
    Carol B says:

My aunts hit the champagne a little to much and we watched big-eyed as the lay beneath the Christmas tree singing “Tiny Bubbles”……. 8o

  19. 19
    Brenda Ginnett says:

Funniest holiday memory: my Dad gave my Mom a pig for Christmas; brought it right in and plopped it in her lap…not the cute, pet pig variety either! We laughed and laughed as kids will do. We’d moved out of town and into a farm setting so, of course, he thought this was an appropriate and useful gift. In hindsight, perhaps a precursor to their divorce that occurred later (following another Christmas where Mom received a garage door opener as Dad’s gift to her!). Now that’s got to be the winning post for the day.

  20. 20
    Joyce Mitchell says:

Funniest holiday memory didn’t happen to me but to my very best friend Carla in the 6th grade. Her little brother got up really early Christmas morning & unwrapped every single gift under the tree. Her mom was absolutely furious because she had no way of knowing which relative had given which gift so she could thank them properly. Carla was disappointed not to get to open presents, but she laughed about all the trouble her brother was in. Thanks for the chance to win this wonderful giveaway.

  21. 21
    Peggy Freedman says:

We adopted two children 14 years ago, age 3 and 9. It was our first Christmas as a family, and to say we went a little overboard that year is an understatement. We bought a pinball machine for our son, and a huge 4-story doll house for our daughter. On Christmas morning, our living room looked like a department store to say the least. We had a cover over the pinball machine and dollhouse, we wanted those to be opened first and they were too big to wrap. We told the kids to grab an end and pull the cover off, which they did. Both items fell apart in a pile of pieces. Both kids starting crying, and all my husband and I could do was laugh so hard. We spent half the night putting these 2 gifst together and there it was in a hug mound. We tell that story every Christmas Eve to relive that very special first Christmas together, and the lessons we learned, more is not necessarily better. Thanks again.

  22. 22
    Marcia K says:

The Christmas day when our weinerdog went into heat.. for the first time quite unexpectedly, and ended up wearing a tubesock the whole day because all of the stores were closed.. Great family pictures while opening photos.. YAY!! Weiner”sock”dog.

  23. 23
    Victoria H says:

When we were little, my dad would bang pots and pans through the house in the morning…waking us up and acting like Santa had been there.

  24. 24
    Margaret says:

Our funniest holiday memory is from when we went to cut our Christmas tree. My husband secured it on top of the van and off we went. Only the tree didn’t want to stay put and my poor husband had to stop every few feet to tighten it up. I quickly popped in a fresh roll of film and snapped a picture of him nearly on top of the roof trying to get it secure!

I lost the roll of film Iof us cutting the tree etc. I only have the one of him up on the roof wrestling the tree! That picture got it’s own page in our scrapbook for that Christmas.

  25. 25
    mean sarah jean says:

last year my baby girl was 7 months at the time. the only thing she wanted to play with was some bubble wrap. she even rolled herself up in it, and would pop the bubbles. it was a lot of fun to watch her.

  26. 26
    Staci says:

A funny memory is actually from last year. Our kitten managed to knock over a 7.5 foot tall fully decorated artificial Christmas tree, bending the tree stand part to bits in the process. My husband then insisted he could lift the tree up and put it in a new stand. The whole things was so ridiculous!

  27. 27
    Tammy Shelton says:

My funniest Holiday memory. My son and dil had been married for about 3 years. I had asked them when they were going to start a family and make me a grandma. They came up with thier lil dog Pudge a Boston terrier and spent Christmas with us and hinted about me being a grandma. When it was my turn to open a gift, they handed me my gift from them. I opened the gift, only seeing the “I (heart) You Grandma” words on top of a picture frame. I got soooo excited jumping up and down (think I was doing the happy grandma dance too LOL). Then I un-wrapped the rest of the present…. is was a nice picture of Pudge my grand-dog!!!
I still have that picture of my grand-dog Pudge, sitting out puts a big smile on my face evertime I see it. I now have 3 grand- babies and 2 grand-dogs!

  28. 28
    Tracy says:

Well my funniest holiday memory actually happened one Thanksgiving…my mom was helping me in my kitchen and she wasn’t used to a gas stove. She ended up catching one of my wooden spoons on fire, which isn’t funny but it was the way she stood there holding it up in the air like she was the statue of liberty asking what she should do with it!! Very funny memory!

  29. 29
    Jodi G. says:

My funniest Christmas memory is several years ago. Both my kids were wanting the pjs that had the feet in them. Usually not a problem but my kids were in highschool ! I couldn’t find any adult sizes so I got the XXL in the teen section. Both my kids were so happy when they got their pair. My daughter’s fit fine but my son was pushing 6′ ! They changed into them and we took a picture. Still one of my favorite pictures as well as a great Christmas memory.

Thank you for more great giveaways and a chance to win.

    Mary says:

My son was 5 or 6 years old. My husband and I were up at 6AM waiting, waiting, waiting.. My son Finally woke up at 9:30.. Who ever heard of a child sleeping that late on Christmas morining. We had a few laughs over that.

  31. 31
    Nicole Scott says:

My funniest holiday memory is when my aunt sent me a pair of spandex jeans when I was 12 and my uncle put them on!

  32. 32
    Kim Childers says:

    would love to win!!!!!

  33. 33
    Emily R. says:

A few years back the military was moving us out of our home state and halfway across the country the day after Christmas. Our parents are over four hours away from each other and we had one car, so my husband spent Christmas Eve and part of Christmas at his mother’s house, drove back to our apartment to hand off the car (he went to sleep because it was a late night at his mother’s), and I promptly drove to my parents’ house to spend Christmas with them. Our first year as a married couple and we spent no more than five minutes together!

  34. 34
    Natalie V2 says:

I think I am officially conditioned to look for these posts, with happy anticipation!
One funny Christmas that comes to mind… the year our daughter was born. We bought our tree in late November, because we knew her birth was impending (end of November, she arrived) and life would get too busy after wards. Well, by Christmas Eve the tree was so dry and withered we were convinced it could spontaneously ignite… the kids hastily pulled off the decorations and my husband, calculating the most efficient exit, hurled the tree out the balcony door and over the rail. As it sailed through the night sky we all looked at each other and burst out laughing… it was kind of hilariously sad, and absurd. We triumphed over spontaneous combustion!

  35. 35
    karen says:

On Christmas Eve, we were opening presents. My mom says “hey, I had something else here for Rod, where is it? What the….?” So my 15 year old brother runs to his room & brings down a hair dryer. He’d opened it & had been using it for the last week or so. My mom was sooooo mad & disgusted. Looking back it was hilarious, but nobody was laughing at the time.

  36. 36
    Tonya Clark says:

The first Christmas I spent away from home, on the other side of the country. I was trying to do a “real Christmas” for myself and my roommate (who really couldn’t care less), and over the course of the week it turned into a “Clark Griswald” event… no matter what tradition we tried to keep, it went wrong, from burnt cookies to broken ornaments to holiday movies that would not work in our ancient VCR… we laugh now but at the time all I wanted was to keep some of the family traditions I was missing at home!

  37. 37
    Cheryl B says:

Funny holiday memory is my niece opening a large gift box that contained only an elaborately wrapped can of soda. She looked so disappointed. She was later encouraged to continue looking for a real gift and she finally found the gift card taped to one of the bottom flaps of the box and was so relieved and pleased.

  38. 38
    Gill says:

A school nativity play when my eldest son was about 5 and dressed as a squirrel (don’t ask!!)
he fell asleep in the stable and started snoring!

  39. 39
    Sarah says:

When we had a fireplace in our home “Santa” always left bootprints. When we moved to a home without one “Santa” decided dirt prints would be ok..as he had come in the door. One of my very young children commented that it was rude that Santa had not wiped his feet before entering..and that Mama would not be happy. I was in the kitchen muffling giggles..was so cute!

  40. 40
    Angela Fehr says:

What a great line-up! One of our funniest memories was the year we were living in a remote area and had to order our gifts over the phone. The odd things that arrived were not exactly what we had in mind!

  41. 41
    Terri says:

Every christmas my extended family goes bowling and we all wear santa hats, or elf hats or reindeer antler hats.

  42. 42
    Debbie Ungar says:

My funniest holiday memory is having to drive to pick up my Grandma and Uncle who got stranded in a blizzard on the way to our house. It was really NOT funny at the time, but once everyone was safe at home, it was funny in retrospect!

  43. 43
    cathy says:

On their first Christmas being married, my sister in law bought my brother a golf outfit. It was like one from the 20s with stripes and was skin tight on him. It was the worst – funniest gift ever!

  44. 44
    miranda says:

I have two stories. One year (and the last year) we had a real tree and the cat climbed up into the middle of the tree and got stuck. She’s a total indoor cat, she could have really been stuck or finally happy she got to climb a tree. My second story is from about 4 years ago, I got my brother in law a roasting pan (he wanted it). My nephew was about 8 months old and crawling around he spent most of the time in or on that roasting pan. Kinda funny, a baby in a roasting pan :) Loved reading all the other stories!

  45. 45
    Belinda says:

My funniest holiday memory was when I was a little girl – I would get so very excited at the thought of opening presents….so my parents wrapped a very small box with a pair of socks in it…then put the wrapped gift in a box and wrapped it…then put that wrapped box in a box and wrapped it…and so on. Early Christmas morning, I started tearing into my first gift….little did I know I would have to unwrap it eight times to find a pair of socks (needless to say (I’m told) I was quite perturbed and pouting when I got to the gift) – our family still laughs about it to this day.

  46. 46
    traci severson says:

you know, how bad is it that the funniest holiday memory would be so bad to actually put down to allow the world to see but without a doubt my son actually reminds me of this incident every year – it involved Christmas tree falling on him! we laugh about it every year!

  47. 47
    Donna says:

Ornament exchanges with the family is always a funny experience. One year my BIL brought a tiny picture of himself on an ornament hook! Another year my SIL brought a a big lead weight on a chain. I’m just glad I didn’t pick that one:)

  48. 48
    Tina M. says:

There are too many to count. My family is an unexpected comedy show when we get together. My best friend is actually the team leader. On Christmas, she caught her living room on fire (with an ensence-how does someone do that). The very next day her mother set her scarf on fire from a candel. Needless to say they get fire extinguishers every year and we all laugh about it. Nobody was hurt, thank goodness.

  49. 49
    Stephanie Zito says:

My funniest Christmas memory would have to be trying to get the Christmas tree into the house last year. The kids had to pick the biggest tree and it did not want to fit inside the front door. We pushed and shoved and pulled. Finally after losing a ton of pine needles we finally got it into the house. I ended up leaving it up longer than usual so it would be really dry went we had to get it back out of the house. Thankfully it went out easier than it came in! Lesson learned – do not get trees bigger than your front door!

  50. 50
    Melinda Brein says:

Our family used to do White Elephant gift exchanges for Christmas. Every year brought laughter due to the silliness of the gifts!

  51. 51
    lisa says:

I think it was the look of horror on my godmothers face when I told her we had hot ogs for Christmas dinner (we had a big dinner the Sunday before, and since it was just the four of us on the day, my mom gave us and herself a treat).

  52. 52
    Karie @ The HoB says:

Having a marshmallow fight with my family!

  53. 53
    Desiree @ Wee Share says:

funniest memory– The year as a child when Santa came a day early. There was a note that said it was because he knew I’d be busy with all of our extended family the nest day. Looking back, it was obvious then there was no Santa, but I guess I really wanted to believe because I bought into it!

  54. 54
    Cheryl Lynne says:

taking a Christmas picture with my family as teenagers and we put red lipstick on my brother. We still have those pics and laugh every time we see them :)

  55. 55
    Tanya Phillips says:

I guess that would be a few years ago, we were living in north GA up in the mountains. The electricity went out as we were opening presents, so we went outside, it snowed that night. The electricity was out for hours, so we all played in the snow for much of the day. It was really fun and nobody was upset about the electricity being out. :)

My funniest memory waa when my hubby and I were first married. My sister in law lived with us and helped me hide a VCR that I had saved up for. I wrapped just the remote and when my cute hubby opened it, I told him that I wasn’t able to afford the whole VCR just the remote (this was the 80′s, technology was all new). He tried so hard to be greatful and had such a perplexed look..it killed us!!! We kept up the farce the whole morning and after all the presents were opened my sister in law asked my hubby to help her move a piece of furniture and behind that chair was his VCR! We got such a giggle out of that!

  56. 56
    Elena T says:

One year we all donned Groucho glasses (with mustache) for a crazy family photo. There were two dozen of us and even the little ones had on their glasses.

  57. 57
    Lisa D says:

My family did a handmade ornament exchange…at thanksgiving you would draw a name of the person you would need to create a one of a kind ornament for and present the ornament on christmas eve. About 16 years ago (yikes…it certainly doesn’t seem that long!!) one of my sisters had picked my name and created a santa ornament for me. This sister of mine is not terribly crafty and doesn’t really enjoy “making stuff”. But this was a masterpiece…it was made out of pieces of an egg carton and had been painted, glittered, and was 3-d with pipe cleaners. It was the gaudiest, most juvenile made ornament any of us had ever seen but it was hilarious. And my sister was so proud of it! This ornament still hangs on my tree each year and every time I hang it, I giggle remembering that day I pulled it out of the gift box.

  58. 58
    Petra says:

I think the most amusing Christmas was when my dear mother wrapped all the presents and THEN labled them. Christmas morning involved her madly snatching half unwrapped presents from us all going “Oh no that’s not meant for you!”

  59. 59
    Charlene d'Eon-Weis says:

I would have to say that my funniest Holiday memory has to be of my husband’s Uncle Wally. Uncle Wally was going through treatment for throat cancer and could no longer speak. One of his grandkids got a plush toy that when you squeezed it’s tummy it said Ho Ho Ho over and over again. This toy was annoying Uncle that it never stopped Ho Ho’ing so he calmly got up out of his chair, picked up the toy, opened the patio door and threw it as far as he could out into the snow…he then turned with a big smile on his face and sat back down. We all laughed so hard at it, it still makes me smile thinking about it :)

    Jenn Nichols says:

My funniest Christmas memory was the year I received a singing Christmas pig ornament. We laughed so hard that tears were pouring down our cheeks. It sounds odd I know, I can’t even explain it, but for us it was hilarious!

  61. 61
    Jamie V says:

When I was quite young I remember we got our first color tv for Christmas! My dad had it all set up while we were gone shopping with mom so when we got home we were supposed to notice it! Dad was so proud of himself but it took quite awhile that day before any of us realized we were not watching our favorite shows in black and white! Jamie V in MT

Thanks for the opp at another great giveaway! My funniest holiday memory? Probably the time gramma made gravy with the dogs water bowl. No I am not kidding. It’s a much longer story and even funnier. Gosh I miss Grams! :)

  63. 63
    Barbara Moore says:

Well I guess it wasn’t funny the moment it happened but we laughed about it shortly thereafter…. I had made Sweet Potato casserole and had put marshmallows on the top of it. Well at that time I didn’t know any better and put it in the oven and turned the broiler on to brown the tops of the marshmallows. I left it in too long and caught the marshmallows on fire! What a mess that was! I had smoke alarms going off and there were actually flames when I opened the oven door. That’s been good for a laugh for years now whenever th whole family gets together.

My most recent funny holiday memory is still stuck in my head, so we’ll have to go with that one :) I’d come across a bottle of Pumpkin Ale and decided to get it so we could all try some at dinner. It smelled FABULOUS… if only it tasted half as good as it smelled >.< We all had sip; my dad said ' oh that's awful stuff' … the rest of us said it wasn't THAT bad. Then my brother took a drink and very carefully set the glass down and spoke. "Okay. It tastes bad on its own…but after you eat stuffing…it tastes like @ss…"
    ….
    ….
My mother immediately ate a bit of stuffing then took a drink… and immediately spit it out. We all cracked up laughing at her. We laughed so hard we had tears pouring down our faces and couldn't breathe … and when I finally managed to ask my mom WHY she'd done that after Dave had just said it was horrid… she just answered. "Well yeah… but this is DAVE… !" I haven't laughed so hard in ages. We poured the remained of the bottle out but every time someone says 'stuffing' or 'ale'…I get the giggles.

Our daughter was 4, nearly 5. We arranged for a call from Santa through a local organization. We get the call, our son talked to Santa and then our daughter got on the phone. After a few minutes she said, you’re not Santa… evidently on the other side of the line this person was trying to convince her he was Santa… then she said, “let me talk to one of your Elves”… my husband and I looked at each other with dropped mouths… luckily there were other people there because one of “Santa’s Elves” got on the phone with her. It was so funny to hear that come out of her tiny little mouth.

So fun! My fave holiday memory is when my dads side gets together and plays games. We have 2 very fun games we okay every year. One which involves money. The first year that we played it, we let my 5 year old cousin play and she ended up winning. She won around $70 dolled or so…it was pretty funny to see all the adult men back out of the next round when she decided to play again.

    Tamatha Kaplan says:

My funniest Christmas memory is kind of well, gross. One year, our family of seven caught a stomach bug that started Christmas Eve while at Grandpa and Grandma’s. Not even illness can keep excited children from getting up at the crack of dawn to see what Santa brought. My husband did his usual Christmas morning video tape, and at one point in the video you can see my then 8 year old son standing up to show a gift he had just unwrapped. Suddenly he drops to the floor in exhaustion right on the pile of wrapping paper, ribbons and boxes and falls asleep. Meanwhile the other children are lying on the couch and in chairs too weak to even play with their new toys. We didn’t have much fun that day, but rewatching the video makes everyone laugh.

One year my whole family went to St. Louis for Christmas instead of gathering at my grandmother’s house in Buffalo. The trip involved driving along a very long and boring strip of I-90. In response to my little brother asking how much longer, my aunt wailed from the front seat, ” I-90 foreeeeeeeeeever!” I am no longer able to drive along this particular interstate without giggling a little.

I have so many funny memories of Christmas. This year, I promised to out our tree one particular day. I dug our tree out of storage while the kids were at school. I only fouind two pieces of the stand so, I tried to rig it up with complete faliure. I went out and got replacements for the stand, but they were the wronf size. I finally had a neighbor bring me oer a tee stand for a real tree. I got my fake tree rigged up in it and was quiet pleased. I fluffed the tree and lit it so the kids couldf decorate, but low and behind half a strand of lights were out. The good thing is that we have so many lights and ornaments you can not even tell once it was decorated and I kept my promise.

    Devin F says:

Funniest memory is actually from a family video. My dad was dressed up as Santa. All of us kids came in from sledding. Sat on his lap, got our present. Then we all went back outside… except my youngest cousin, who was probably 3 or 4 at the time. You can here her, as the rest of us head out the door, “Dat’s not Santa, Dat’s Uncle Dale!” Oh, out of the mouth of babes.

    Becky Scott says:

My funniest holiday memory was I was so busy passing out presents, that I slipped on my parents ceramic tile floors, fell down and peed my pants. I guess that happens when you get older and have had 3 huge babies. No Poise pads that day. Had to wear some of Mom’s sweat pants that did not even match my Christmas sweater. Funny, but not. :O

    Sara says:

My funniest memory is actually a very old picture of me when I was a little girl. It is a picture of me sitting on Santa’s lap giving him the death stare (apparently I hated Santa). Every year my grandma likes to bring it out and laugh about the awful look I was giving Santa. I guess my mom just about fell over laughing when she saw me giving him that look.

Our friends had come over and we were exchanging our presents when the cat went under the tree and stole a package and started ripping it open. My father was in the Air Force and while stationed in Viet Nam he met a man named Red. I grew up only knowing this man by the name of Red. He was a huge, larger than life red head country boy. He ended up at several bases that our family was stationed at too. It kind of became a tradition that Red would go out and get us a tree for Christmas. We don’t know where he got them and we never asked, but one year he brought us a tree that was so large we had to cut the top off. The cut off portion of the tree was large enough for us to have a second Christmas tree. The funny thing is, even after the top was cut off, the tree was still bent across the ceiling. No tree topper that year. Red was one of the kindest people I remember growing up and I now wonder what happened to him. We lost touch after we moved from KI Sawyer AFB to Wright-Patterson AFB in ’78. Merry Christmas Red wherever you are!

I remember when we forgot to get a tree one year, so we made one out of candy, brownies and green frosting. It was a foot tall, and it was absolutely gorgeous. Unfortunately, our bichon frise, Bella, helped herself while we were out shopping one day. Needless to say, when we came home, she looked more like a Christmas tree than our half eaten candy tree did. It was one great laugh!

    Lisa N. says:

It wasn’t funny at the time, but I watched in seemingly slow motion as our tree started to fall over. My son was on the couch and I yelled, “Catch the tree!” but it was down before we could stop it. Glass shattered everywhere. Of course it fell forward, where all my best glass ornaments were. I almost started crying but didn’t want to freak the kids out so I tried to hold it together as I cleaned up. Truth be told, everyone felt sorry for me and I ended up getting tons of gorgeous ornaments I now treasure. We always double check the stability of the tree now too and always make a comment about the year the tree fell over.

Oh without a doubt…..FOOD FIGHTS!!! Seriously, when I was growing up food fights happened almost every holiday. It was no big deal for someone to put pie in someone’s face, flip mashed potatoes from their spoon, or….this one Thanksgiving my grandmother had bought me a birthday cake from local grocery store. When she went to hand it to me across the table on the palm of her hand (I just could resist), I smacked her hand from underneath. Cake went flying and it must have been the driest cake EVER because it exploded. There was not a single piece of cake bigger than a dime. My mom said she found cake for weeks after that. I wish we still had food fights but as we all go married and had kids it kinda died off.

My funniest memory is when my sister, 3 bothers and I were still at home and helping get the decorations out at Christmas. My Mom had the word “NOEL” in plastic. It was puffy and looked almost liked piped frosting. We hung it on the door every year. My brother Greg picked it up backwards and said “Who is Leon?” Later, getting out the bells we always put in the window, he taped them to his chest and said “I’ll be there with bells on” We laughed so much, it took forever to get the decorations up. We still talk about this every year.

I was only I think about 7 and I am 57 now. My mother used to tell that story over and over to my children.

whtat a great giveaway! I am a fan of all of them! Thank you!

Not too many funny memories that I can recall except one that brings a smile. We always had to worry about the cats attacking the tree and even had to tie it up one time but the biggest joy was our mini Schnauzer Hayden as he would wait for an ornament to drop from the cats and then he would sweep it up and hide it. It was a hoot! We found that his fav hiding place was behind the sofa.

Loved reading the comments! I think my fav so far was the santa claus that was hijacked from the train under the tree. Too cute!

My family and I lived in Norway for 3 years when our children were very early school age. The first Christmas we were there we bought what we thought was an interesting wreath at the downtown market- it was grey & green lichen with a small red bow. We hung it on the door. After a week, a Norwegian neighbor came over and as tactfully as possible explained that those wreaths were ONLY for use at gravesites in the cemetery! A little cultural faux pas that we are still laughing about! PS Needless to say, I took the wreath down!

the funniest memory: my mother in law got really angry because we had played a joke on her: we wrapped a small plastic spoon as a gift & gave it to her ( we couldn’t wrap the 20 liter ‘restaurant size’ ICE CREAM in her NEW favorite flavor CANDY CANE or PEPPERMINT TWIST), when she opened the box saw & the spoon, she slammed the box closed, she didn’t see the note under neath… after a few akward minutes we gave her the big ice cream tub & then she realized why she needed the plastic spoon…. she laughed then & we all had ice cream ;)

When I was a teenager, my dad used to go outside after dinner on Christmas Eve and throw gravel up onto the roof. He claimed it wasn’t him, that Santa had made an early stop and we were hearing reindeer hooves. We’d go outside and find a big box of Whitman’s chocolates on the front porch.

We NEVER caught Dad throwing the gravel. He was huffing and puffing a few times because he’d had to run all the way around the house and come in the back door where we wouldn’t see him, but he was always right there with us when we went outside to find the chocolates. We knew he’d be doing it but we still never caught him!

Maybe it really was Santa making an early stop……

My great aunt had packed everyones presents in boxes she had lying around, so my sister got a set of knitted bears in an iron box, my brother got something sciencey in a saucepan box and there were other gifts like this. When I got to mine I unwrapped my present to find a hair-dryer box. Thinking I was getting something else I said “Oh a hair-dryer just what I always wanted” (it actually was something I wanted), only to open the box and find the hair-dryer I had wanted inside.
It still makes me smile that my great aunt was able to find the exact right thing for all of us and make it a surprise. The hair-dryer lasted for years and I still remember the Christmas I got it.

Back in the 70′s when I was a teenager, it was no unusual for people to NOT lock their front door when they weren’t home. My best friend knew this. One day when my family was not home, she came over and hung homemade reindeer Christmas ornaments on the tree. She made one for each of my family members. When we came home that day, I thought something looked different about the tree. On close inspection, we found 6 wooden reindeer. We knew where they came from and had the best laugh! They were so excited to decorate and I was loving every minute – of course not everything was arranged as I would do it but I loved their ideas. Funniest holiday memory…hmm, probably when I was in college, and I was flying home, and got stuck at an airport about 3 hours from home. My dad REFUSED to drive up and get me, and I had only $10 in my checking account – so of course, I couldn’t get it OUT of my account, since ATM’s will only give you $20…so I was stuck, overnight, with no money, nothing to eat, no where to stay. I was SO mad, so frustrated, in tears. Finally, the airline took pity on me and gave me a hotel voucher and a voucher for a pizza! Now I can look back on it and laugh…though at the time, I most definitely was NOT laughing!!

When I was about 12, my family Christmas was attended by 25 children and adults. The fun continued late into the evening (and the next morning!) so everyone had to find a place to sleep in our small 3 bedroom house. My Grandmother and her “friend” earned the spot of honour on a large air mattress right in front of the fire. The children awoke first, of course, and were excited as it was Christmas morning.
My Grandmother’s friend was overheard saying quietly to my Grandma, so as not to offend, “Nellie, it is just like trying to sleep in the middle of the 401(Ontario, Canada’s interstate) !!!”
This story has been retold every year since, with a great deal of affection!

This happened many years ago. My sister, who is very easily scared (always has been), had just recently moved into their new home. It was Christmastime and she was busily decorating the house with tons of ribbon, garland, holly, etc.. She had purchased a new angel for her tree, but didn’t notice that it was animated… She had put the finishing touches on the tree, plugged it in,and had started working on the garland for the staircase railings… She noticed a movement from the corner of her eye, and when she looked up, there was the angel– s-l-o-w-l-y flapping her wings! My sister was not only startled, but truly scared for the brief moment of time that it took for her to realize that the angel was *not* haunted, but only animated… LOL We still laugh about this story… :-)

My funniest memory for Christmas was when my son (and youngest of 2) was old enough to appreciate the idea of Christmas presents – age 2. On Christmas eve, we had a tradition that the kids could open one present – always new PJ’s hand made by me. My daughter is older and knew what to expect, but the look on my son’s face was totally priceless as he opened the gift and pulled out the PJ bottoms. Totally disappointed he dove back into the package only to pull out the top. He looked at the PJ’s, then at me and dissolved into tears. He got over it shortly and loved the new ‘jammies. My funniest memory I think has happened every Christmas for the last 15 years: watching my funny dog rip open her present or 2, then help my boys open theirs! Since her very first Christmas as a puppy, she has loved to rip the paper off presents! The bow came off first, then she would start in on the paper. But she never ate any of it, which was always so surprising. She would just throw the pieces aside creating a huge scattered mess of paper, until every bit of paper was removed from the gift. Then she would prance around wagging her tail, so proud of what she had done! She always left the whole family laughing until we had tears in our eyes!! This will be our first Christmas without her, but I am sure the memory of her entertaining us like this will still make us smile as we open our gifts.

This is just a lovely giveaway! One of our funniest holiday memories was the afternoon spent going through bags of garbage because someone’s new earrings got thrown away with all the wrapping paper! Although it didn’t seem funny at the time….! And yes, we did find them! And we are all wayyyyyyy more careful!

Probably the year my Aunt’s wassail fermented and she just kept drinking it Christmas Eve. She was hilarious! Christmas day she had to wear sunglasses to lunch because of her terrible hangover. If you saw my Aunt Pam it would be even funnier (she looks like a round church lady) :)

I was standing on a stool to put ornaments at the top of the tree and my little brother pulled it out from under me. I landed ok, until I tried to stand up, I took one step, slipped on a piece of paper on the floor and sprained my ankle and my wrist! My mom took a picture of all of us in front of the tree after we finished and I was sitting awkwardly cradling my wrist! My brother and I had the picture out at Thanksgiving this year and were laughing so hard we couldn’t breathe!!

I don’t know why we didn’t have our usual tree topper on our tree one year-maybe it was broken? My sister took a wrapping paper tube, crumpled and twisted it and stuck it on the tree, then that same Christmas the tree fell over twice!

One year when my son was about 3, the whole family went to my mom’s and we all had presents to open except for my son, who was given an unwrapped teddy bear chair by my mom. He was a little upset that he didn’t have anything to open and we started laughing, but stopped when we saw how hurt he was. We didn’t think of getting or bringing him anything to open, as I knew my mom had bought him the chair, which he loved, the the way.
    Thanks,

Our funniest memory was when our entire advent wreath lit on fire–it was a ring of flame on top of our TV. Funny of course, because the house didn’t burn down! Well I am embarrassed to say my funniest memory of the holiday is from over 28 years ago…the first time my husband took me to his home state to meet his family.
That is the year a VERY large turkey was made with many other meats. The turkey was set on the counter to cool and be carved. While everyone was busy, I looked up to see the in-laws cat eating the turkey!
needless to say I didn’t eat turkey that day…

The memory that most sticks out is when we were traveling to my Husband’s Family for Christmas the first Christmas we moved away and our car broke down on the turnpike. The car was towed back home and we rode back home in the tow truck. We then rented a car for the trip to be with family….wasn’t funny at the time but remembering riding in the tow truck is funny now and the kids were 2 and 4 back then and they got such a kick out of it at the time. They are 19 and 21. : )

Back in the 70′s my generation of relatives were all big fans of Mad Magazine. One Christmas 2 of my cousins (in their 20′s) were horsing around and one of them grabbed the wig off of his mother’s head and plopped it onto his head. His brother immediately grabbed the lace coffee table scarf and threw it over his brother’s head, wig and all, like it was a real scarf, and held the ends of the scarf together and kissed him on the cheek. The look on my be-wigged cousin’s face was priceless and he looked just like the one of Don Martin’s “bulbous nosed & big chinned” characters straight out of Mad Magazine. We were all on the floor laughing, including my aunt who had lost her wig, and I have the pictures to prove it!! Can you say blackmail…

Every year my family makes my sister and I (ages 28 and 32) do the same skit we have been doing since we were in elementary school. It’s called Priscilla. I have to sit on top of my sister, who is laying down, so we look like we are just 1 person and do an arm/leg/verbal skit. It is SO ridiculous. Everyone has to video it and laugh hysterically. Maybe when we are 50 we will get to stop it!

Before we had kids, we brought our dogs to Christmas at my Husbands grandmothers house. Ramona says:

There are lots of funny christmas stories but one is the year my daughter wanted a hamster so bad. I bought her two little dwarf hamsters and left them at my mom’s house on Christmas eve. She went to get them to bring to my house after the kids were in bed and the hamsters weren’t in their cage. We looked all over the house for them ( she had 3 cats) and prayed the cats hadn’t eaten them. We finally found them hidden in a closet. The bars in the cage were to wide for the dwarf hamsters. The next day on Christmas, I had put a stuffed hamster in the cage for my daughter to unwrap and she was so mad that it wasn’t real. ( We planned on surprising her after breakfast). I couldn’t take how mad she was so went and got the real ones and told her the wild tale of chasing them around the house. She finally forgave me but still reminds me of it to this day.

a few years ago at my parents house for Christmas Eve party, my mom, who cannot work anything electronic, decided to be in charge of the music. we realized after about an hour, that we had been hearing “Jingle Bells” non stop, bc she had pushed random shuffle and then repeat on the cd player, so it just kept playing jungle bells, over and over and over. we still kid her about it!!

The funniest holiday memory I have is my cousin getting a lasso for Christmas when he was around 4. I guess from watching movies, he immediately knew what to do with it. He started twirling it in the air, and immediately lassoed our grandpa — right around the neck! It was hysterical.

My funniest story is my 21 month old daughter avoiding Santa at the mall this year. She would not look at him at all. She even closed her eyes and plugged her ears so she didn’t have to see or hear him. While we were on a train ride around the mall, she ducked down on the floor when it went past Santa. I am going to need a miracle to get her on his lap :)

My funniest memory from Christmas was when I was a freshman in college. It was the middle of the night and the RA started beating on all the doors telling us we had to go downstairs. We were all mad and took our time to get up and they just kept yelling and knocking on our doors. When our floor got downstairs to the common area there were gifts for all of us and for a lot of us one of our family members waiting for us. My mom had bought the cutest little bear and came to see me! It was hilarious to see us all in our pjs and mad about being disturbed from our sleep…and then our reaction to this kind act our families had done for us!

I woke up early. Was about 12. Figured I’d make some cinnamon toast then decided I’d water the tree since that was my job. Got up after watering, tripped a little, the tree -very large tree-went tumbling to the ground. The commotion woke up my mom and sister. We managed to get the tree upright with only one broken ornament. And then walked into the kitchen to discover the toast was burnt and flames were coming out of the toaster right under the cabinets. A disastrous beginning to Christmas morning. But we have laughed about it every year since. My dad started wiring the tree to the wall.

My younger sister teased us mercilessly about wearing braces. During a holiday family get together, her friend came running downstairs saying my sister needed help. We were worried until we saw her. They had been playing/doing gymnastics routines and somehow… my sister’s braces got stuck in the berber carpet after a face plant. So instead of going to get scissors and pliers to help her, we ran and got the video camera. Poetic justice.

The Christmas morning that I did an unexpected run! As we were opening gifts, our dog had escaped from our yard. I spotted him down the street and started to chase after him. The memory that comes to mind as one of the funiest is when I was about 10 years old (yes, way back in the sixty’s!). We were at my grandparents house for Christmas, and the house was packed full of relatives. The sister just above me, age-wise, was 12+ and needed, …um, er…private garments. Our famly was large and gifts were carefully selected, one per child. I’ll never forget when my sister opened her one gift, with the whole room watching…. Oh the complete HORROR on her face as she opened her bra!
Funny? Yes, only becuase it was not me!

My favorite funny memory would be the year my daughters received the exact same gifts from myself and their father (divorced). I had told the girls to give their Dad some ideas of what they would like for Christmas, and they did, but what I didn’t know is that they were the same things they asked me for for Christmas. So they each ended up with two of the same gifts. It worked out fine, they each had a walkman, and a nintendo that year.

I painstakingly hand crafted a large wool felt play mat for my girls – hours of wet, stinky felting! It was beautiful. We set out the mat and carefully arranged lovely wood toys to go with. In the morning the girls came down and were thrilled to see it, but didn’t want to play with it because it was wet. I could have sworn it was dry – I had finished it days before. Turns our our naughty little kitten had claimed it for a litter box! We washed and dried it and the girls had to wait an extra day to play with it. It was so infuriating, but all I could do was laugh! He’s lucky he was so cute. :)

    Sivje Parish says:

Hmmmmm…which one to choose? There was the Christmas my oldest daughter and her cousin were 3 and tattled on each other for the dumbest things all day long, racing each other down the stairs to get to the adults first. They were wearing socks and both slid from the top of the stairs to the bottom, then got up and ran to tattle, over and over. The most memorable tattling was when India tattled that Tyler was bugging her by “pretending he has a long arm!” We still giggle over these things.
There was also the Christmas that we were all broke and the entire extended family put on a talent show for each other Christmas Eve. One set of sisters donned old bridesmaids dresses and sang “Sisters” from “White Christmas”. Then, not to be topped 2 guy cousins put on the same dresses and did the Bing Crosby/Danny Kaye version of the same song. It was hilarious!!

Two years ago DH insisted he wanted a Fur Real cat, it was the latest must have gadget, a life size, moving, miaowling, purring cat. I picked it up in town but what I didn’t know was it had a test switch which was on! As I carried it along it started to miaow, I tried to remove it from the box but it was totally strapped in with those tamper proof tabs and it wouldn’t budge. I had to take the train home so decided to sit in the seats in the entrance away from the main carriage, but when the train stopped the front doors jammed and all the people came down my end, by that stage the cat was on a 1min miaow loop and wouldn’t stop! I just wanted to slide under my seat but at least the passengers all went home with a smile!

My brother was filmed spitting out food in a napkin (I know, gross) and saying “yea this is good stuff” with this horrible look on his face. He passed away a few years later in a car accident. I’ve driven for 15 hours and my mom moved without telling me! I ended up going to the hospital where she worked and found her. Boy, did we have a good laugh when she realized that she had forgotten to tell me she was moving. I learned to put sofites toward the bottom branches for them….I’d find ornaments right into January where the cats hid them under couches, behind pianos etc :)

I tossed him the keys, but I was so full of adrenaline I overthrew and the keys ended up on the roof of the house. Uh oh! As a family, we laugh a lot, but eight years back, when my daughter-in-law was pregnant and expecting her first baby in just a week or so, she sat down at the table for Thanksgiving only to have the chair collapse under her and send her falling to the floor. Fortunately, she was not hurt, and she was laughing as hard as the rest of us. She was not that large at all, and the church was 100+ years old and in need of some work, but the fact that she was 9 months pregnant added to the laughter.

Oh I just love April Cornell’s style. My funniest holiday memory is the time when we decorated the Christmas tree, went to bed and woke up in the morning to find the tree fallen over and lying on the couch. So we propped it back up, only to have the same thing happen the next night, too. But my husband really fixed it that time and it didn’t happen again.

Long story.I’ll condense it. I made peanut butter fondant for buckeyes, but had to work. I intended to dip them the next day…my (now) ex husband tried to help…he rolled the fondant into balls and placed them outside to chill. Wind picked up…little peanut butter balls went everywhere. He picked them up and brought them in to dip, my 2 year old son wanted to help, so he handed the balls to his father to dip into the chocolate. The ex was amazed a what a wonderful job he was doing getting all the snow off…he did it the best way he knew how…he plopped the ball in his mouth, sucked off all the snow and handed them to dad. Needless to say we couldn’t give any as gifts.

Funniest holiday memory….probably the year my parents left us at home when they went to the hospital to have my little sister. My older step-sister, myself, and my brother ‘peeked’ into all of our presents on Christmas eve.

We finally fessed up to dad about it a few years ago…he was in tears he was laughing so hard!

    Thanks!

We had done a remodel on our the kitchen in our house and the contractors promised me that we would be back in the house in time for Christmas Dinner. Needless to say we barely made it, but I was not going to give up the tradition of having the family over for Christmas Dinner. I cooked all day and everything was perfect until it was time to eat and I realized that all of my silverware was packed somewhere deep in the garage. My 3 year old son just announce to everyone that is was OK, you could just roll you meat (prime rib) up and bite it. So as he was dragging his Prime Rib rolled up like a hot dog through his mashed potatoes, everyone got the giggles and eventually the silverware was found.

My funniest holiday memory is when I was 8, I begged for a guitar for Christmas. On Christmas morning, we all run out and there is a huge guitar box with my name on it. I opened it up and found a little plastic, play ukelele in it. My parents had hidden the guitar behind the tree and gave it to me later. It wasn’t really funny at the time, but now it sounds like something I would do to my daughter.

The funniest thing I can ever remember happening is the year that Steve’s nephew was 4 years old and every package he opened was underwear. I have never seen a child get so irate and upset with Santa in my whole life. But shortly after his temper flared, he received a call from Santa telling him his presents were at grandma’s because Santa thought he was there on Christmas Eve. I laughed so hard that the tears ran down my legs.

My funniest holiday memory is traveling to my folks home in Washington state when we lived in Oregon. Our three kids were young, this is when your kids could ride in the back of the pickup with a canopy on it. The kids could lay on the make shift bed and sleep while you drove. The dog was also in the back with the kids when he got real nervous and ended up doing his business on top of some of the already wrapped gifts. The kids were in an up roar about the stink. Some gifts had to be tossed some were rewrapped. Back then it wasn’t as funny but if you ask our family that is the most memorable Christmas because it really makes us laugh.

one year we moved into our new house on dec 21. my parents had refrained from getting a christmas tree because we were moving, and we were living in a small town in the mountains in BC, so there were trees everywhere. note: the trees that grow outside in the mountains in bc are not good christmas trees. we waded out in knee-deep snow in the middle of the dark (it gets dark at like 3pm there in the winter) and the trees are so much bigger in reality than they look from the road. my dad walked up to one and said “what about this one?” and my mom said she couldn’t tell… shake off the snow. So my dad stood underneath the tree and shook it… i think that’s where i learned my first curse words. they ended up chopping down a tree and then just taking the top 8ft of it… and it was one homely looking tree!!!

My older sister was utterly impatient, with presents under the tree, and every year would manage to figure out what was in each of her presents. My mother, exasperated by my sisters ability to gingerly unwrap and rewrap decided one year to code the presents with numbers. She knew my older sister would figure out the numbering system pretty early on, because she was that determined, so my mother assigned us each a series of numbers, making utterly impossible to figure out whose present was whose, even if you did know what one was.

Come Christmas morning, we opened our stockings, and waited for my parents to sit down with their coffee so we could tear into our presents. They finally had everything together and sat down, we looked at mom, waiting for the list. Oh heavens she’d left it in her bedroom….the waiting was killing us. Time seemed to tick by SOOOOO slowly. Finally mother came out, she had utterly no idea where the legend for the gifts were.

We spent Christmas morning long unwrapping each others gifts. It was really rather amusing, and we had a big laugh about it all. Luckily once the present was open mother would let us know whose it was. There were three girls, all just a few years apart – so really, we’d open up the present, not sure if we could get excited (it might not be ours).

One of my funniest holiday memories is the year when our youngest cat continuously climbed the tree. She was still a tiny kitten and solid black, so the only way to find her in the tree was to look for her yellow eyes! If we couldn’t find her in the house, we immediately looked in the tree–she took naps in the branches, hung out during the day and probably enjoyed the flurry of us looking for her! The pictures from that year are great!

One year on Christmas morning I unwrapped a present. It was a shoe box with my mom’s old shoes in it. When I looked at her quizzically and showed her the gift, her eyes grew as big as saucers. “I bought a pair of shoes while I was shopping and wore them home. I must have gotten confused when I was wrapping and wrapped up my old sneakers thinking they were the new shoes I bought you!” We laugh about it every year.

My funniest holiday memory is probably from my college era when I brought my (now) husband home to visit my family during the holidays. I insisted to them that he was just a “friend,” but, in reality, we were a bit more. We went out and I showed him around town, including my old elementary and high school and we, admittedly, spent a bit of time making out under the bleachers (something I never would have done when I was in high school!). We got home and the first thing my brother asked is, “Were you making out?” I was mortified at the time, but now it’s a funny story.

    Pam Corle says:

My sister and I were maybe, me 10 my sister 6 and we had devised this plan that we would sneak down and see what Santa had left us. She slept in my room and I had a canopy bed and we had clipped sheets all around it to make a sort of fort. When we got up real real early in the morning, like 4am’ish, we snuck down the steps to sneak a peak at the gifts…well little known to us at the time our parents had just crawled in bed after last minute wrapping, stuffing the stockings and bringing the gifts out to arrange under the tree (ah the life of a parent), they had heard us stirring upstairs and knew we were up to something, so they let us sneak downstairs (our bedrooms were up and our parents was right next to the living room), shake a few packages and then one of them cleared their throat quite loudly and my sister and I scrambled like we were robbing the place she made it to the steps and up but I fell so I jumpled on the couch and pretended to be sleeping trying to make it authentic by fake snoring so they wouldn’t know I was up if they came out to investigate. We still talk about to this day every year when we reminisce about the past that and laugh so hard our guts hurt.

    Nancy Sue says:

When I was in my mid twenties, my parents and both sets of living grandparents met me in Florida to have a Christmas weekend together. We met at my grandparents house, and I brought along a video tape of what I thought was a production tape of the play The Miracle Worker that I had performed in at the local theatre. I thought it would be great for the grandparents to see since they couldn’t attend any of the performances. Halfway through the tape, the screen went blue, and then we couldn’t believe what we were seeing. Apparently one of my roommates at the time, had taped over the production tape with how shall I say this…. an “intimate” tape of miracles being worked…. It was horrible! I shouted out for everyone to put their hands over their eyes, and I could not get to that TV fast enough. It was like a dream of running in slow motion in mud trying to turn off the TV. After an awkward silence, my grandfather asked, “Anyone for some spicecake?” We cracked up! Both sets of grandparents have long since passed away, but we still talk about that Christmas!

Open the door.” It was my brother, fresh from Marine boot camp. He had lost so much weight — and hair — that I wouldn’t have recognized him if my life depended on it.
