Fabulous Feature: Vintage Drum Carder

This week’s feature comes from Sayra and is truly unique, not to mention beautiful.  Plus, it has one of my favorite features, functionality.  I love that Sayra actually uses her vintage drum carder to blend fibers that eventually become felt.

“I love my vintage drum carder! It’s a tool of amazing possibility. I use it to blend my many fibers. The ‘batts’ I make with it can become felted objects…needle felt…or even wet felt many things!”

Fabulous Feature: A Furry Friend

Who says your favorite work item has to be an inanimate object?  Who says it has to be an object at all?  Thanks to Cathie for reminding me that inspiration comes in all shapes, sizes, and species.  And who doesn’t need a little furry friend now and then?

”Although my favorite studio item is not really a piece of equipment, it does enlighten my days and brings a touch of fun to my art room. Being an artist and small business owner I really cannot afford to hire an assistant.  Therefore I was pleasantly surprised to find one who’s not only worth her weight in gold, but whose only requirement at the end of the day is a cozy lap and a small dish of food.”

Say it with me… awwwwwwwwwwwe!

Fabulous Feature: A Rather Lovely Desk

What if your desk were so much more than a desk?  What if it offered storage, display space, and inspiration for your future projects?  I feel that way when I look at Heather’s desk.  I also feel a little envious.  Isn’t it just gorgeous?

“My favorite item right now is my desk. I’m addicted to wood organizers and this is how I use them!”

I think that we can all agree that Heather uses them just right.

Fabulous Flowers

We spend so much time in our workplaces. Whether that space is your home, office, or studio we are typically there for multiple hours every day.  Being indoors a majority of the day can be a little gloomy at times.  Fresh-cut flowers are the perfect way to brighten up your space and bring the outdoors in.  When was the last time you filled up your vase with a little bit of sunshine?

Fabulous Feature: Paint Shelf

Storage can be a huge issue in your work space.  Finding a place to keep pens and paper can sometimes be challenging.  Imagine if you had to find a place to put hundreds of things.  Many of you with studios or craft rooms face this challenge everyday.  This is why I thought this week’s feature from Mary was perfect.

I love Mary’s solution to paint storage.  A custom piece of furniture is sometimes the best option to stay organized.  Here is what Mary has to say about why she loves her paint shelf:

“My husband made it for me according to my measurements. It holds about 1000 bottles of acrylics! I have my mason jars on top of it filled with buttons. All of my paints are arranged in color families and alphabetically. Delta Ceramcoats are on the top shelves and DecoArt Americanas are on the bottom shelves. Each bottle is labeled and within easy reach of my paint tables. I wouldn’t want to be without it!”

Mission Possible: where women create BUSINESS

Today we have a SUPER SPECIAL SURPRISE announcement from our own Jo Packham:

Jo Packham and Stampington & Company are launching a new magazine: where women create BUSINESS.

And…Chase has a new campaign: Mission: Small Business which is the selection of 12 companies for a $250,000.00 grant. This is an opportunity for all of us to help each other. Each company who has submitted for the grant must receive 250 votes before they will be considered – which is more difficult than it sounds!

The grant would be used to create a website for “where women create BUSINESS” so that we will all have a place to go when we have a business question that no one can … or will .. help us with. There will be Q&As with successful women entrepreneurs, videos, tutorials, and more. A vote for “where women create Business” is a vote for a resource that is so needed by all of us in our artisan entrepreneurial worlds. This grant would be the beginning of your new and/or continued success of your passions!

Go to https://www.missionsmallbusiness.com/, click on “Log in and support,” search for “Where Women Create Business” and click vote. We realize it is a number of steps and appreciate your help.

PLEASE CAST YOUR VOTE TODAY … you are voting to help so many!

Mirror, Mirror

It’s time to admit it—I love stained glass windows.  I think I could spend days wandering through old European towns and admiring the stained glass windows in all the churches.  I’ve always wanted to bring stained glass into my workplace.  It would be a lovely source of inspiration each day. That is why stained glass mirrors are the perfect compromise.  They are perfect for your home, office, workplace, or studio

Fabulous Feature: Wall Unit

Storage is necessary is any work space, studio, office, or home.  But storage doesn’t have to be all function.  It can serve as a centerpiece to a room.  That is why I love this week’s feature from Katie.

Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/katieorsellc Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/katieorse

This wall unit not only serves as storage but also as a lovely focal point for the room.  I think it would fit nicely in most spaces and you could incorporate your own style by the decor you add to the shelves.  But, enough about what I would do.  Why does Katie love her shelving system so much?

“This is my favorite item from my studio. It is my 5 shelf Expedit wall unit from Ikea. I purchased this almost 10 years ago and it has lasted several studio moves and redecorations. The 2-drawer units  are removable if you want them in or not. Totally customizable for anyone’s organizational needs!

Everything I need to run my business is housed in this unit. Space saving and at a reasonable price.”

I love pillows of all shapes and sizes.  If it were up to me, my couches, chairs, and bed would be a sea of beautiful pillows.  Now, thanks to “Embellish Your Home,” I can get one step closer.

Making your own decorative pillows is easier than you think.  This step-by-step tutorial will have you piling on the pillows in no time at all.

I never knew it could be so easier to make such fun pillows.  What are you going to put on yours?

Fabulous Feature: Wings

There are some things in our work spaces that are there to serve as inspiration.  And isn’t inspiration an important function in your life?  To me inspiration is just as necessary as a working pen or charged phone.  This is why the wings from Stacey seemed perfect to feature this week.

I love the idea of having something in your home, office, studio, or workplace that reminds you of your goals.  Stacey knows how to stay motivated with they help of her beautiful wings:

I love these wings that hang above my desk.  The were made by my sweet friend Shelly Kinnison.  My business tag line is ‘For the Girl with Roots and Wings’ so they are a perfect reminder for me to be brave and use my wings!”

The Handcrafted Wedding: Treasure Box Tutorial

Who doesn’t like treasures?  I think we all have little trinkets and things that we will “treasure” forever.  That is why I adore our latest feature from “The Handcrafted Wedding.”

This tutorial on how to create treasures boxes for your wedding is simply wonderful.   I’d go as far as to say “Why wait for a wedding?” Just make them for fun.  Little girls (and big girls) will love storing their favorite items.

You want to go grab a box and store your treasures right now, don’t you?

Fabulous Feature: Flowers

This week we are featuring an item (or in this case items) that brought a smile to my face.  I sometimes focus on the fuctionality of everything and forget to stop and smell the flowers.  Thanks to Jude for reminding me to do just that.

These flowers aren’t only lovely but fuctional.  But it makes me happy to see that even Jude gets caught up in the pure beauty of the flowers.

My favorite studio item is the flowers I use each week for botanical illustration. Sometimes it’s hard to focus on the drawing or painting–I just want to soak in the beautiful colors and forms.
