Fabulous Feature: Vintage Card File
Re-purposing storage has to be one of my favorite things. It is always amazing to see what people do with old suitcases or shelves. That is why this week feature of a vintage card file turned into a photograph holder is truly fabulous. What secrets, smiles, and wonder does it hold?

I use them in my cards to bring smiles to all who receive them. Discarded photos have history and meaning and this filing cabinet is filled with families and stories and humor and love!”

Fabulous Feature: Turquoise Bowl and Flower Frogs
Many of us are in the grips of winter. All the beautiful colors of spring, summer, and fall are starting to disappear and our landscapes are very bare. That is one of the reasons this week’s fabulous feature makes me smile. The items that Christine chose, like her turquoise water bowl, are so bright and cheery. It was just the splash of color I needed this week.
Fabulous Feature: Turquoise Bowl and Brushes and Frogs
“I have two items in my studio that are my favorite. It’s hard for me to choose between my turquoise water bowl that I bought at a thrift store for 25 cents. Its holds my brushes in the folds while I’m working.”
“I also love my heavy old flower frogs ( also found at thrift/antique shops ) that store my brushes and tools that are so nice to have nearby while painting. ”

Fabulous Feature: Art Caddy and Paint Palette
Sometimes we forget that the most useful things can also be beautiful in their own way. That is why I was inspired to share Beverly’s art caddy and paint palette as this week’s Fabulous Feature. They each have a very distinct use and also beauty. How can you not find joy in the rainbow of colors and sea of supplies?
Fabulous Feature: Art Caddy and Paint Palette
“My art caddy is an antique! What once carried tools for a farm, now neatly contains my art supplies…brushes, scissors, colored-pencils, tape, and assorted other accessories. I do a lot of plein-air painting in my garden, so with my caddy I can pick up and go where-ever my muse takes me. The ability to sketch and paint with my subject in front of me gives my watercolors an energy that is like no other.”
“My palette is wide enough that I can mix any color nature provides right on the spot. Art is about being in the moment!”

Fabulous Feature: A Few of Monica’s Favorite Things
It’s another week and another Fabulous Feature where I couldn’t just choose one item from the fabulous Monica’s submissions. Trust me when I say that I showed self constraint in only choosing three. Her vintage storage trunks, vintage portable studio, and lovely chalkboard stone were the one’s that just spoke to me. I hope you have the same feelings as I did when you see just how amazing this these items are.
Fabulous Feature: A Few of Monica’s Favorite Things
“I am a licensing artist, photographer and lover of all things creative. Unfortunately, after the sale of my property in Italy two years ago, I haven’t found a place to call home as of yet, but I’m not letting that refrain me from being creative! I don’t have a studio anymore (or let’s say, as for now!), and just work on the dining room table, crammed full with art supplies! I also have a pile of vintage trunks and suitcases, that I use as storage.
These are my favorites things at the moment:
My chalkboard stone I made, with the writing Just Keep Swimming. I have loved it in the cute movie Finding Nemo, and I always stick to it in my personal and artistic life. Storage cans, both vintage and up-cycled. Fresh posies, I always have on my worktable.”
“My vintage portable studio.”
“Vintage trunks I use to store all my crafty mess, finished artworks and such.”

Fabulous Feature: French Desk
This week’s Fabulous Feature has me salivating just a little. The colors, the beauty, the lighting, and just everything seemed to scream to me. If a picture is worth a thousand words I think this picture is worth 10 times that. I can only imagine how gorgeous this French desk is in real life. It makes complete sense why Angelina loves how it is displayed in her sewing room. It’s breathtaking.

Jo Packham to be Honored With Ogden City Mayor’s Award in the Arts
I am so excited to announce that our own Jo Packham is going to receive an award from Ogden City, Utah Mayor Mike Caldwell on October 11th, 2012. Jo has long been a supporter of revitalizing Ogden and of course the arts. She is being honored in the literary category; which of course makes perfect sense. Jo wanted me to share a quick note of thanks:
“I am honored to receive Mayor Caldwell’s Awards in the Arts in the Literary category. I love working on any project that could be considered “the arts” and I am proud to be recognized among the other inspiring artisans that are also being honored.

Fabulous Feature: Paint and Such
It seems like I just can’t stick to one when it comes to our Fabulous Feature series. So many people have multiple things they truly love about their studios or work spaces. It really is hard to narrow it down to just one. Carol sent me over so many lovely photos I even had a hard time just choosing a couple to feature. I can understand why she loves so many things in her studio. I am excited for you to see just how fabulous her bulletin board of family photos and “hat lady” are.
“My bulletin board over my desk.”
“Mom’s hat lady.”
“I work in gouache which is an opaque water color. I mix the colors in these little plastic jars and just add water to them when I want to paint. They are very handy with the mixing info taped on the cover, I love the ease and simplicity that the plastic containers bring to my everyday work.”
“I have been licensing my work for over 25 + years and my website is www.caroleldridgedesigns.com. My new studio at home is painted the blue of the ocean, since I live in Marblehead only a few short blocks from the beach. The Captain and I own a boat and love the ocean. The town is built around a wonderful harbor which is the focal point of our activity especially in the summer months. My studio is filled with all sort of interesting collectibles, samples of my products, prototypes I have created, lots of my fabric, reference books, sketch books and a ton of photographs of my family. I have one entire wall that is a giant bulletin board where I hang my work in progress to watch it evolve. I have little treasures in groupings and vignettes all over the studio that is literally bursting with color and inspiration. “
