When our friend Angela Flicker asked us to participate in
A Crafty Holiday 2010
We jumped at the chance. Angela has a great idea. She wants to encourage us to buy handmade and crafty this holiday season. With this in mind, she started "A Crafty Holiday" blog hop. Read her mission here. We at Where Women Create couldn't think of a better way to support handmade than to add our blog to this great cause!
So here is our answer to this question posed by Angela …
"Why are you buying handmade items this holiday season"?
Our motto here at Where Women Create is
From A Woman's Soul.
Through A Woman's Eyes.
By A Woman's Hands.
We fully and completely stand behind this philosophy. I can tell you that it is an amazing feeling purchasing something handmade. You are directly supporting a labor of love! As I walked through the Handmade Market at The Creative Connection I was in awe of the beautiful works of art that these talented women created. I purchased many Christmas gifts, and even some things for myself. I came home with some one-of-a kind treasures that I will always hold dear to my heart.
*a holiday treat for me from one of my favorite handmade artists Krys Kirkpatrick
Please keep this in mind this holiday season.
We need to support each other and the handmade movement!
Our next assignment for this project was to create a list of handmade items on our holiday shopping list.
WHEW!
What a big job that would be!
We could never choose just a few artists, so we invite you to check our blog roll, our Creative Friends links and our Fabulous Friday artists. We have assembled quite a list of FABULOUS artist with beautiful items for your holiday shopping needs. Not only that, we are adding a link at the bottom of this page where you can share your shop or blog with all of us. All we ask in return is that you please add a Where Women Create button to your site or add us to your blog roll. I love shopping handmade. I love knowing that I’m getting something that someone has poured their love and energy into. It gives the item and kind of “soul”.
What a great idea! Handmade really is the best!
I am so thrilled about this holiday blog hop event, because somehow I had never been to this blog before, and it’s lovely! Great post, thanks so much.
What a wonderful idea! I couldnt agree more. There is so much more meaning behind a handmade item! Glad to be a part of this!
This is a terrific idea. I love handmade! Lovely, loving and durable.
This is an awesome cause I am more than happy to support! I believe carry all the love and hope of the creator to those who need it most. Art possesses the power to heal
It’s exciting to see everyone else’s excitement in regards to “A Crafty Holiday”. I truly hope it helps people consider buying handmade, instead of from big department stores this holiday season. It should be a fun ride, seeing the handmade treasures that everyone finds ;) Can’t wait!
During one of my shows one of the customer asked the question: ” where would you want to take your creativity, what do you see in your future?”. I didn’t know what to answer it sounded so serious. The only thing that came out of my mouth was HANDMADE! We are going to do everything we can to have only artisan with handmade items. Wonderful idea. Ciao Rita mammabellarte
I LOVE the idea of going back to more homemade things. In the past few years, many craft shows have had ‘made in china’ things- yikes, what’s up w/that? I LOVE hand-made, homemade- nothing finer and this initiative is one I’ll be behind her all the way!
I love sharing my primitive folk art, especially at the holidays. In my mind’s eye, I see a cozy log cabin with a Christmas tree reaching nearly to the ceiling and a fire glowing in the fireplace, friends and family enjoying the season and each other’s company, good food … and my primitive folk art all around.
I’ve added this blog to my blogroll!

This is so good and so timely. I met you at Farm Chicks…you bought the Whitehouse Cookbook from me;)
Thanks so much for all you do to encourage creative passion. There’s no better gift.
Happy November;)

I give hand-made because from a young age my mom and grandma taught me that hand-made is HEARTmade. And over the years as I have given the spark in the eyes of the receiver is always extra special when the gert those HEARTmade goodies. And I just want to add this: I am still wondering who won the fabulous prize from the Oct 22. {I just had to ask … I’ve been drooling over all the goodies you know.} *insert big smile and a giggle too*
I love SHOPPING handmade and MAKING hand made gifts……
Such a lovely site. Thanks for letting us link in!
The gifts that I have received which are handmade are some of my most treasured! Thank you for hosting!
I’m totally onboard with buying handmade and homemade. I love the idea of giving something special to someone special and will definitely be supporting the “artist” this season. Craft on!
i just love this, i have been thinking about how to turn some of my images in to some sort of keepsakes… its post is definitely an incentive to get those creative juices flowing.

I have always enjoyed giving and receiving handmade/homemade gifts, and hope to move that to 100 percent this year!! I love this site and am inspired daily!
I’ve been making and buying handcrafted for years! As a crafter I really appreciate the work and creativity that goes into the crafts I buy. I love the blogging world…it gives us a chance to see what other crafters and artists are doing all over the world!
I wrote about taking the Handmade Pledge last year: http://cynthiareynolds.wordpress.com/2009/11/01/buy-handmade-take-the-pledge/
When you give handmade, you won’t regret it. It is also a valuable lesson to teach our children. Have a christmas workshop and make presents with them, instead of dragging them to the mall for the latest ‘made in China’ fad.
I love the new look of your blog! Looks very fresh!!!

So great to be introduced to you through A Crafty Holiday!
I’m big on buying handmade – it’s awesome to see so many people feel the same!
Thank you so much – I totally needed this inspiration for the Holidays.
Time to get my craft on…
I knew there would be something fantastical going on over here. How inspiring!
Thanks so much for promoting “handmade”. This year my goal is to give handmade and hopefully fill my Etsy Shop with prettie for others to give handmade as well.
Wishin a wonderful holiday season!
