Debbie and Shea share …
"One of our favorite Christmas traditions is making Holiday S'mores. I am not exactly an "outdoors girl", and we don't ever go "camping", but…I love S'mores and one year I had a huge craving for them, but I decided to add a holiday twist to them.
I just learned to make homemade marshmallows (which I highly recommend…they are easy and delicious), and had a plate of fresh out of the oven cookies, so I thought I would make a kicked up version that was a twist on the classic "S'mores" dessert that I love. I made a pan of homemade marshmallows and the kids and I 'roasted' them over our gas burner (you can just eat them off the fork at this point if you just can't wait to gobble them up…I do!). After they were roasted, we slid them between two homemade ginger wafer cookies I made and voila! A holiday treat that has become a definite tradition round these here parts."
Debbie and Shea are giving away this GORGEOUS crown,
handmade by A Gilded Life.

Lisa shares …
"I have been so fortunate to have shared every Christmas morning with parents, which for the last 23 or so years also included my husband. Santa always knows where to find me, thanks to my Mom. She goes to great lengths every year to make arrangements for Santa to visit and find all of us. It is always like walking into a storybook. The tree is trimmed with LOTS of meaningful ornaments and new ones are being added each year. It's sort of like a scrapbook of memories, especially when you see your fifth grade handwriting on things. There is always something yummy baking and food being prepared. It's very special and the more time that passes, the more I realize it and feel so grateful! The stockings truly are hung by the chimney with care with every expectation that St. Nick will be there. Thanks Mom!"
Lisa is giving away a copy of her beading inspiration book, A Bead in Time, which provides examples/how-to's of jewelry created based on photos she's taken as well as guidance for readers to do the same based on meaningful photos or objects from their own life.

Tracey shares …
"I am the (obnoxiously at times) proud mother of two grown daughters and a son. When my oldest daughter was in first grade, and her little sister was in preschool, I came up with the (brilliant, I thought) idea for the three of us girls to host an annual Mother-daughter Christmas tea.
I asked my girls to each pick two little friends, and their mommies, and I would pick two of my friends and their daughters. I handmade invitations and we had friendship tea, apple cider, cookies and tea cakes, and all sorts of wonderful girlie treats.
Oh! Such fun! Everyone in their Sunday best, enjoying such a wonderful treat of an afternoon. (Truth be told, I am pretty sure the Mommies loved it most of all) The Christmas time merriment continued for many years, and I was sure we would continue this tradition forever.
Several years later, when my girls were in the 7th and 5th grades, my younger daughter came to me right after Thanksgiving. (She has always and forever been a straight-forward-no-holds-barred-shoot-from-the-hip girl…and still is. I love this about her.) She announced to me that we needed to stop this tradition, because it simply wasn't cool enough for middle school aged girls. (What the..?!) Furthermore, she informed me that my older daughter felt exactly the same, but was far too intimidated to tell me, for fear I would have hurt feelings.
Well.
My feelings were hurt. (or, was it my ego?) Devastated, (All of the women all seem to carry an over-active drama gene in our family, it seems) I stopped the tradition that year, and lived to tell about it. (many times….it's that drama gene thing, you know)
Now that my girls are grown and grand babies are beginning to sprout, I am reminded of the wonderful memories we made in those six or seven years we enjoyed wearing our finest Christmas party dresses (Oh, so Little Women-esque!) and am now thinking we just may need to revisit this wonderful tradition within the next few years with our newest generation of little ladies….and I am betting that my daughters will both agree."
Tracy is giving away a kit to make each of these wonderful banners which she will email directly to one lucky winner!

Faboulous stories!!!
Wonderful, inspirational stories today. Love them all – I’ll have to try the s’mores, and the Little Women-style tea parties are just sweet (and I’m sure your daughters will want to revisit them and make more fond memories for themselves and their children, Tracy). Lisa, I love your description of the “storybook Christmas” your mother creates. “Like a scrapbook of memories” – this phrase really rang a chord with me.
I’ll be sad to see this series end, it’s been so inspiring, fun and interesting. I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s post.
Of course I blogged about today as well: http://knittingitall.blogspot.com/2010/12/eleventh-day-inspiration-and-smores.html

Don’t you just hate it when girls think they are too big to still have fun. I hope you pick the tradition back up, I think it sounds wonderful.

Homemade marshmellows are the best!!! Loved all of todays tradition stories. What fun we creative types seem to have.
I love reading up on everyone’s traditions and getting a peek into other people’s lives! I really wish party dresses were more common these days…and with a tomboy, that will never happen. But she is comfortable as she is, and I have to be happy about that!
Tracey, you simply have to start dressing up again. Any excuse will do but at Christmas AND a tradition? It’s a perfect combination.
Loved reading the stories, ladies!

“Cover Votes”
My dad and I just celebrate Christmas by ourselves…one year was tough adn we just had money for coffee and soda…so we went out Christmas day looking for a coffee spot…which is naturally a bit hard to find…but we did manage to find the one coffee sp ot in town that was open Christmas day. Now things are better….but we still go out every Christmas now looking for the one coffee spot that is open :) :) :) It’s a bit of a nontraditional tradition…but we have so much fun!!! Love and hugs from Oregon, Heather :)

I’m hoping for granddaughters someday so I can have tea parties with them. I have two boys and they wouldn’t have touched a tea party in any way.
Marcia W. says…. My sister-in-law still has the Peter Rabbit tea set that I gave her girls. Now their wee girls, my grandnieces, will sip pretend tea and (jabber) talk to imaginary guests with this same tea set. Some traditions are priceless. Thank you for another visit with 3 artists and great stories about traditions. Please enter me into your giveaway. alternate email mlwright29 (at) hotmail (dot) com

Great traditions and memories. Why do our kids have to grow up;(
Kids can say the darndest things when it comes to “traditions” and their idea of what is cool…as they grow up they remember all those uncool things that you made them do and the best feedback is when they start the same traditions in their own homes.
Yes I follow WWC on twitter and I just tweeted the 11th day giveaway: http://twitter.com/rlphilbr13

Thanks for the stories! Love them!
I love the idea of a Christmas tea!
I love all the posts and all the wonderful traditions, however, I really like how Lisa said her mom would always make sure that Santa found them. That is very sweet. I also decorate my tree with old meaningful ornaments — we get an ornament or and item from when we travel and always add it to the tree. When we decorate, there is always a bunch of “remember when…..”
I loved the holiday tea party story! Such a sweet idea! Merry Christmas!
I follow you on twitter
I voted for the Spring Cover
Thanks for the chance!! Beautiful!
A Christmas Tea — I LOVE this idea. And your girls not wanting to do it any more… devastating… Such a melancholy story, Tracey. Thank you for telling us all the details. Some traditions go on and on… and some come and go.
truly a blessing when we share our traditions!
It’s always fun to learn about others special traditions at the holidays. Two years ago we started having The 4 weeks of Christmas. We get together once a week in December and eat or go to a concert or movie or play a game of monopoly and at each meeting exchange a gift each. This was my idea to get to see more of my kids after they left me with an empty nest. Of course, the gift at each meeting, was the bait for the kids and we have had so much fun doing this. Thanks so much for the giveaway. ms.cheryl
