 Sewing

 Are you a "Sewist"?

I am! Out of all of the hobbies I have, sewing gives me the greatest pleasure. Maybe because I usually sew for my children (Halloween costumes, Christmas PJ's, summer dresses), or maybe because it's relaxing to hear the hum of my sewing machine after everyone has gone to bed-the best time to sew! Or maybe it's the joy of buying beautiful fabric. Whatever the reason, I think sewing is wonderful! How about you? What is your favorite hobby? Or maybe you have a cherished sewing memory.

Please share! ~Paige

I sew a little something at least a few times a week. Love making new clothes for my self and my kids and grandson. My girls always love having clothing thatno one else does! Creativity plus a sense of accomplishment. Can’t beat it!

I dabble in all sorts of things, but sewing is definitely the one that I feel most comfortable with. When I feel the need to create, I sew!

I don’t sew as much as I’d like to but it does bring great joy and it is my first {crafting} love!

Congrats to Stephanie on winning the giveaway :) :)
let’s see, I like to sew. Lately, I’ve been doing a lot of knitting. However, I do have my grandmother’s old sewing box. It’s a J & P coats tw-drawer sewing box, that actually belonged to her mother (my great-grandmother) it still has a lot of her sewing things, that I remember from childhood, including hook-n-eyes…from the 30s…and other stuff that are probably Edwardian, they ‘re old…like these really cute scissors that have a bird image engraved on them. In any case, I remember my grandmother pulling out spools of thread out of this box to make me outfits..and so now the box is in my home…and it makes me think of her and I smile :) :) Love and hugs from Oregon, Heather :)

I have many hobbies but sewing is on the top of the list right now. It has changed as the years have past and have got caught up with different crafts like scrapbooking, decorative painting, crocheting to name a couple. But when I pick up sewing again I always feel as though it becomes a part of who I am.

I love to sew…..both by hand and machine. I started embroidery nearly 30 years ago when I was 8 years old. I have loved it ever since.
I am going to be teaching a cross-stitch class at my children’s school enrichment night a few weeks from now. I’m going to have them work on a simple book mark and hope to pass on this wonderful craft to the next generation.

Oh Memories! Now that you mention it….and it brings tears to my eyes. My Nonna would always be the one fixing all our clothes back in Sicily. I am pretty short so every single pair of pants needed to be adjusted. Her sawing machine had a pedal and a wheel so she would spin the wheel and pedal with her right foot and feed the fabric with her left hand. Fascinating to me. And all the little drawers were full of buttons and other elements that I didn’t know at the time. There was a piece of soap in one of the drawers…that was her way to make a line, now there are probably a variety of different way to mark the fabric… Finally I was about 12 when we spent the day together and she showed me how to make a jacket and it was red. It was a long long day but at the end I had made a jacket with Nonna Angelina. I am a woodworker and solder teacher for a living but whenever I can , I relax playing with my sewing machine, I am not good yet but the day will come. Ciao Rita mammabellarte

I wish I was a sewer! I had all the intentions to be a sewer, until I realized that I was just not all that good at it. However, I learned that I love, love, love fabrics and that was one of the inspirations behind Pretty Pear Designs. Love the feel of fabric, wanted to use it, just was not the best at sewing. I admire all those that do, especially my mother-in-law who creates things of beauty. I love sharing my fabrics with her and her quilting club!

Hi, Paige. I like to sew and create my teddy bears. :o) The sewing is part that I’ve gotten better at as I’ve gone along. I was not a seamstress when I started, and I wouldn’t say I am one now, LOL! I love taking a flat piece of mohair fabric and watching it come to “life” as I work on it.

I’m in the process of sewing something right now that is so bitter-sweet. I’m making my daughter’s dress for her high school graduation party! I can’t believe that she has finished high school. While I’m so excited to see what life has in store for her, I can’t help but miss the tiny little girl I was making dresses for with all the ruffles and lace.

Wow. I love the hum of the sewing machine too. I also love humming when I hand stitch!
I love everything about sewing. It’s relaxing and therapeutic and it takes me away from all the worries in the world.
    I especially love making quilts!
    Blessings,
    Sue

Sitting down at the sewing machine brings a feeling of excitement and contentment. It’s not often those two emotions can co-exist well. Listening to the hum of the machine, snipping threads, pinning layers, pressing fabric – they all lead to the creation of something unique.
I love sewing – quilts, clothing, home decor items, just about anything (except draperies and curtains – they just make me cranky).

I just love sewing rooms! They remind me of my mom and my grandma and of lovinly made clothes and quilts…I love looking through my mom’s fabric and listening to the sound of her machines and cutting…such warm visions, thank you!

I’m hand-sewing simple projects and love it! Also teaching children this fine old craft! As children we had a sewing room and learned all the basics. I have a few examples of children’s sewing projects on my blog if anyone is interested in show and tell.

I love to do embroidery and then sew my work into something useful or just pretty to look at. I started blogging to motivate myself to start and finish projects. It has worked but I seem to find new ideas to work on almost every day.
